Using Customer Type to Filter Customers

Larger companies, or companies with multiple business lines, may desire to show only certain customers within the HWIT Business Management applications. For example, if you are a construction business and only want to show Home Watch or Maintenance clients in HWIT you will now be able to.
You can filter the customers to show in HWIT by using the QuickBooks “Customer Type” field. Do note that all customers will continue to sync to/from the system, they just won’t be visible within the HWIT applications. They will be visible in the Method applications (Contacts, Activities, etc.).
To assign Customer Types to your customers do this in QuickBooks.
Start by setting up the different Customer Types you wish to create. For the example, we’ll set up a Customer Type of “Construction Only.” In QB, navigate to the Customer List, and click the Customer Types button at the top.
Set up your Customer List in the screen that appears:
Once you have the list created, you can assign the customers that you want to be a part of that list on the Customer Edit screen:
This information will then sync to your HWIT Business Management System and is ready for setup there.
Optionally you can set a Customer Type from the HWIT Customer screen:
In the Business Management System you simply need to tell it which Customer Types should be excluded from your customer lists and dropdowns. Go to the Preferences Screen, open the Accounting Section, turn on the Customer Types option.
Once you’ve turned the option on by clicking Yes, the Manage Customer Types link will be enabled and you can click on that to pick the types to exclude (remember to hit Save after turning on the option!!).
In the Customer Types window, simply check the boxes of the types to exclude and hit Save:
Your lists will now excluded any customers in the Customer Types you have marked.
If you use the QB “Job Costing” module, you can also use this feature to exclude all of the sub-customers that are jobs of the primary customer.
